First Day of Camp!!

Hello campers and parents, and welcome to our first day of camp! Today was an exciting day, for obvious reasons, as we got to meet the campers for the first time. We started by learning everyone's names and then moved into the lab for a discussion of lab norms and etiquette. We then split into two groups and took the campers to collect the insects in the pan traps that we set up yesterday. After collecting all our insects, we made a quick stop for lunch before returning to the lab. 

Back at the lab, we introduced our campers to a dichotomous key, which is a tool scientists use to identify organisms. We spent a lot of time helping the campers identify the insects and then put that information into our camp data table. Afterwards we took the campers out to the Tech deck for some cool-down time before taking them to the pick-up area. We had so much fun with the campers today and we are looking forward to tomorrow!
