Intense Investigations!
Our campers were fully immersed in their research projects today! The campers have split into groups to each pursue their particular research question. They’ve each developed a unique research methodology to collect data.
The “Perfume” group was interested in what was it that made a flower attractive to pollinators, Specifically, was it more the smell or the color. They planned to make a “tea” from different colored flowers and test the preference of the fruit flies. In parallel, they plan on using different colored pan traps to test the color preference for pollinators.
The “Human Impact” project was interested in how insect behavior is influenced by human activity. They have selected several locations across the NU campus with different levels of human activity and plan to place pan traps to determine the abundance of insects.
The “Butterfly” group was interested in how butterflies behave around flowers. They’ve developed an observation protocol to collect data. They plan to use it in a variety of locations around the NU campus.
